The Essex Way Relay returned on Sunday 5th September in its first edition since 2019, on a hot sunny day with temperatures reaching 27 degrees. GFDR fielded 3 teams (men, women and mixed) among a total of 53, with the men’s team equalling their 2019 4th place, only 2 points behind 3rd placed Leigh On Sea. The mixed team also recorded a great result, finishing 13th out of 40 (men’s and mixed teams compete in the same category), and the ladies achieved a very respectable mid-table position (4th from a total of 7 women’s teams).
Special mention to two leg winners: Simon Bond, who led leg 3, and James Bosher, winner of leg 5.
Many thanks to Dan, James and Louise, who followed the teams all day around each leg; Howard and all the volunteers looking after leg 4, and all the runners who make this event a success every year!
